MELISSA KOSAR - Filmmaker
About the Filmmaker:

My motivation as a filmmaker is to feel the reaction I believe the audience would feel, both through the characters and the story. I like to create several stages of intensity and conflict that raises and lowers the audiences’ emotions. I compare the ups and downs of the movie to a roller coaster; I want to take the audience on a wild ride where they will be surprised causing several emotional buildups. The main idea is to always keep the audience guessing and in the back of their minds think: what is going to happen next? I like to create films that allow the audience to be brought in and feel like they are in the movie. The audience needs to have a relationship with the main characters; they must identify with, sympathize with, love them or hate them.

My passion to create is based on the telling of the story, whether it is in written form or shown visually on screen. There are stories to be written by a writer, and stories that need to be visually told by a director; I want to tell those stories.

Outside of filmmaking, I enjoy coaching basketball. I began playing at the age of 5 through high school and after playing my first 2 years at Benedictine University (Illinois) I decided to focus on my career. Although I stopped playing, I continue to coach. The role of a coach is similar to the role of a director, striving to have all the players work as a unit focusing on the same goal.
